Styrenix Performance Materials
Learn how Styrenix replaced their entire historian system in just 7 days with dataPARC, achieving zero downtime and seamless operator adoption.
Styrenix’s Story
Styrenix Performance Materials Limited is a publicly-listed company in India specializing in the production of Absolac (ABS) and Absolan (SAN), two types of plastic resins used in manufacturing home appliances, automobiles, machinery, electronics, and other consumer products. Their operations include four production sites and over 500 employees. In January 2025, Styrenix acquired INEOS Styrolution Thailand. This acquisition triggered a licensing reset of their existing operational software, forcing them to completely reimagine their data infrastructure within a matter of months.
“Our operators immediately noticed the displays look familiar, but PARCview is significantly faster and more responsive. What we used to customize manually is now standard out of the box.”
Zero Manual Rebuild
Automated conversions meant no manual rebuild of excel reports or graphics.
A Decade of Data
11 years of historical data needed to be preserved with the switchover.
Unlimited Access
The entire organization now has access with no per-user licensing cost
Srtyrenix’s Challenges
Within weeks of the acquisition, AVEVA delivered the shock: their existing PI system licenses would need to be repurchased at full price with no corporate discount, available only as subscription-based models, and PI ProcessBook, the visualization tool their operations relied on daily was reaching end-of-support.
The ultimatum was clear: pay significantly more for the same aging system, or find a better path forward.
The Pain Points
Styrenix needed a system that would fully replace their PI set up. It needed:
- 15,000 process tags to configure and collect reliably from three OPC servers
- PI ProcessBook displays requiring conversion to maintain operational visibility
- PI DataLink reports that analysts depended on for daily decision-making
- 3 years of immediate historical data plus 8 additional years needed on demand
- Zero tolerance for production downtime during the transition
- Complete user adoption required from day one—no time for training curves
An Impossible Timeline
The ultimate pain point was the time pressure. Standard historian migrations typically require three to six months. After the decision was made to move forward with dataPARC, there were only 7 days to implement before PI was decommissioned.
- 15K Process Tags Configured from 3 OPC Servers
- 30 Displays / Reports Migrated
- 3 Years Historical Data Backfilled
Why Styrenix Chose dataPARC
Styrenix needed absolute confidence that dataPARC could truly replace their PI system. The decision came down to six fundamental concerns:
- Functionality Match
dataPARC functionality is equivalent, plus it has enhanced capabilities and has greater flexibility than PI - Automated Conversion
There are converting tools, meaning no manual rebuilding was required for PI ProcessBook displays or DataLink reports - Familiar Interface
The converted displays maintain layouts that operators already know, thiswould eliminate the learning curve - Unlimited Client Licensing
The system can be deployed to the entire organization, no per-seat costs and it can scale access as needs grow - Historical Data Integrity
Complete migration with full fidelity of operational records along withparallel operation to minimize disruption - Proven Track Record
Demonstrated success with similar high-stakes migrations
The deciding factors extended beyond technical capabilities. dataPARC’s unlimited client licensing eliminated future seat-cost negotiations, while their responsive partnership model offered direct engineering access and real-time support. Most critically, dataPARC demonstrated they could address all concerns within the seven-day window—a commitment few vendors would make and even fewer could deliver.

The dataPARC Solution: Results and Future Vision
Styrenix’s seven-day PI migration delivered results that transformed a licensing crisis into a strategic advantage:
Technical Excellence
The project was delivered on-time delivery with go-live at midnight deadline, there was zero production downtime during transition.
Operational Impact
Since the site was able to convert displays, the user adoption was seamless, and the site gained enhanced features. They experienced faster trend rendering and navigation, accelerated decision-making. The unlimited client access deployed across the entire organization enabled users access who had never had it before.
Strategic Win
There is long-term cost savings since dataPARC has a perpetual licensing versus subscriptions which AVEVA was forcing. The system is future-ready for advanced analytics and digital transformation.
Building on the Foundation
