Case Study: Energy Transfer
Enterprise Data Visibility
with Zero Downtime
Siloed systems can create blind spots in your process data. Energy Transfer solved this problem with an enterprise-level data management solution that also cut costs, saved time, and empowered their employees to make better decisions.
The Story
Costly Data Silos and Blind Spots
Energy Transfer (ET) is a midstream energy company headquartered in Houston, Texas. They are one of America’s largest energy movers with over 90k miles of pipeline, 477 facilities and more than 10k employees. The amount of data that ET needs to access on a daily basis is massive. To be successful, ET needs to store, contextualize, and share this data with stakeholders across the organization quickly and efficiently.
Challenges
Before dataPARC was implemented, data silos were common and operational context was scarce. Not only was mining for data a huge time drain, but it also created a lag between when issues occurred and when solutions could be found. ET’s previous data management systems were also difficult to integrate and they varied enterprise wide, which led to different reporting methods and a lack of consistent information.
Requirements
They needed a streamlined system that would break down data silos and give network visibility to staff around the country. Their key requirements included:
- Hi resolution data management for 50+ facilities
- Hybrid deployments between local and cloud networks
- Visibility into 100% of their 90k miles of pipeline
“We consume nearly a dozen external data sources that help us enrich our data – weather data, power data, pricing data… dataPARC allows us to get more value from what we already have.”
Tyler Fedun, Director IT Operations

Complete Digital Transformation Means Data Visibility at Scale
With a vast infrastructure of assets spread all over the country, Energy Transfer had a lot at stake. For their digital transformation to be successful, they needed to connect millions of data points into a consolidated view so critical personnel across the enterprise could make smarter decisions faster.
The Results
$10M in Annualized Savings with
Zero Downtime
Energy Transfer first deployed dataPARC at their Mont Belvieu fractionation facility to validate the system and prove ROI. They immediately realized the benefits of a consolidated data management system with improved visibility. After one year at the test facility, a complete enterprise-wide implementation began.
“We broke our hard ROI into 3 categories – time savings, cost avoidance, and decision support. Using dataPARC, with only 1 year completed, we’ve captured more than $10M in annualized savings.”
Immediate ROI
By prioritizing time savings, cost avoidance, and decision support, Energy Transfer realized more than $10M in annualized savings after 12 months.
Zero Downtime
Parallel operation allowed data validation before cutover with full production continuity throughout the transition and no disruption to production.
Expanded access
After a successful pilot, dataPARC was deployed enterprise-wide, enabling key personnel across the organization to access the same data.
Increased Operational Efficiency
Their real-time data infrastructure allowed operators to find solutions to complex problems before issues got worse.
Data Consolidation Across Assets
dataPARC provided Energy Transfer with enterprise-wide data visibility of more than 6 million tags at over 100 sites.
Smarter Tech Stack
Rich data is being fed back to other systems across the enterprise, filling in gaps reducing Capex, and improving process automation.
